The classic family game show works because every contestant is guessing what everyone else would say. This version needs no host, no studio and no survey data: your own room is the survey. Every question goes to everyone at once, and the answers people really give become the board.

How to play Survey Says online

  1. Create a free room and share the link. It runs in the browser on phones and laptops, with no account and no download.
  2. A prompt appears, such as "Name something you find in a kitchen drawer."
  3. Everyone types a short answer at the same time. You have 25 seconds, and the answer locks in when you press the button. Nobody sees anyone else's answer yet.
  4. The reveal ranks the board. Matching answers are grouped, the most popular answer climbs to the top with the names of the people who said it, and your own answer is highlighted.

Scoring

  • Up to 400 points for matching others: your points are 400 times the share of the other players who gave your answer.
  • 100 bonus points if yours was the most popular answer on the board. If two answers tie for first, both get it.
  • Nothing for a one-of-a-kind answer. That is deliberate: a joke answer nobody else gives cannot beat the sensible one everybody does.

Three questions make a round, and the default is two rounds. The best player reads the room, which is the same skill the TV format rewards.

How matching works

People do not type the same words, so the game compares answers the way a person would. It ignores capital letters, punctuation, small words like "the" and "of", plurals and word order, so "Phone charger", "chargers, phone" and "the phone charger!" are one answer. Longer answers also forgive a one-letter typo. Short words must match exactly, so "dessert" and "desert" stay separate.

Needs at least 3 people. Bots sit this one out: a bot has no idea what a room of people would say. The more players, the more interesting the board gets, and up to 500 can play at once.

How many players, and how long it takes

From 3 people up to 500. Everyone answers at the same time, so a big room takes no longer than a small one. A question takes about 35 seconds including the reveal, a round of three takes under two minutes, and the default two rounds fit comfortably into ten minutes.

Ways to change it up

  • Talk about the surprises. The best moments are the answer nobody expected to be number one.
  • Use it as an icebreaker. Answers reveal what people have in common, which makes it good for new teams.
  • Red vs Blue. Team mode adds each side's points together, so departments can compete.

Common questions

How do you play Survey Says online?

Create a free room, share the link and press Start once three or more people are in. Everyone types an answer to the same prompt and the reveal ranks the answers by popularity.

400 points times the share of the other players who gave your answer, plus 100 for the top answer. An answer nobody else gave scores nothing.

How are matching answers decided?

Capital letters, punctuation, small words, plurals and word order are ignored, and long answers forgive a one-letter typo. Short words must match exactly.

Do I need survey data or a list of questions?

No. The room is the survey, and the game supplies 108 work-safe prompts.

How many people can play?

From 3 to 500 in one room, all answering at the same time.

Is it free?

Yes. It is free to play, with no download and no signup.

Can I play a Family Feud-style game online for free?

Yes. Create a free room and share the link, with no signup. Instead of a studio survey, your own room is the survey: everyone answers the same prompt and you score by matching the room.

Can we play Survey Says over a video call?

Yes. Paste the room link into the call chat and everyone answers on their own device while you talk. The reveal shows the answers ranked by popularity, with the names of the people who gave each one. Turn on Red vs Blue team mode if you want two rival sides.

Ready when everyone is.

Create a room, share the link, and your group is playing in about 30 seconds. Free, with no download and no signup.
