How the tournament works
Nobody needs the rules of Rock Paper Scissors explained, which is exactly why it works as a whole-team game. Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock. What this adds is the bracket.
- Create a room and share the invite link. Everyone who joins is entered automatically.
- The draw is random. If the numbers do not make a neat bracket, a few players get a bye into round two.
- Every match in a round is played at the same time. Each one is best of three throws, and a tied throw is simply thrown again.
- Win and you go through. Lose and you predict. Before each round, everyone not playing in it picks the winner of each match.
- One champion is left after the final, and the leaderboard shows who called it best.
Why it is fast: because every match runs at once, a 32-person tournament is five short rounds, not thirty-one matches in a queue. The whole thing fits inside ten minutes.
Throws stay secret
Your throw is locked the moment you tap it and cannot be changed. Your opponent only sees that you have thrown, never what, until both throws are in and they are revealed together. Every throw has an 8 second clock, and if it runs out a random throw is made for you, so nobody can stall a round.
Knocked out is not sitting out
The usual problem with a knockout is that half the room is out after the first round. Here, everyone not playing in a round (people with a bye, people already knocked out, and spectators) predicts the winner of each match before it starts. Every correct call scores points on the same leaderboard as the players, so the last few rounds are tense for the whole room, not just the finalists.
Scoring
- Each match you win: 50 points
- Champion: 150 points on top
- Each correct prediction: 25 points
A sharp predictor who goes out in round one can still finish above a lucky quarter-finalist, which is a good thing in a team game.
Short on people?
If fewer than four people are in the room, bots fill the bracket so the tournament can start right away. You can also add up to seven bots in the lobby to make a bigger bracket. Bots throw at random, which is the only honest way to play Rock Paper Scissors.
Why run it here
It is built for the moment at the start of an all-hands or a team social when you need everyone doing something in the first minute. Up to 64 people play in the bracket and the room holds up to 500, so it scales from a team of six to a company call.
It shares the room, host controls and leaderboard with the other games, so you can run a tournament as the opener and go straight into Speed Trivia or Draw & Guess without anyone re-joining.
